Business phone system
A business phone system is the set of phone numbers, internal extensions, users and call routing rules that a company uses to make and receive calls as an organisation rather than as individuals.
Cloud and on-site phone systems
- On-site systems (PBX) run on hardware installed in the office.
- Cloud phone systems (cloud PBX) run as an online service. Users make and receive calls in apps or on IP phones, and settings are managed in a browser.
Main features
- Shared company numbers (DID numbers) and internal extensions.
- Call routing, including menus (IVR), ring groups and call queues.
- Calling apps (softphones) or IP phones for users.
- Call history and, often, call recording.
A business phone system is not the same as a contact center. Contact-center software adds tools for agents working campaigns, such as predictive dialers; a business phone system focuses on numbers, routing and calls for the whole company.
