What is a missed call?

Missed call (lost call)

A missed call, also called a lost call, is an incoming call that ended before anyone answered — the caller hung up while waiting or ringing, or reached no destination.

Why missed calls matter

A caller who does not get through often calls a competitor instead. For sales lines, a missed call can be a lost lead; for support lines, an unhappy customer. Tracking them makes it possible to call back quickly and to see when and why calls are being missed.

How to reduce missed calls

  • Ring a group rather than one person, with a fallback when nobody answers — see ring group.
  • Hold callers in a call queue instead of letting them ring out.
  • Forward unanswered calls to a mobile or voicemail.
  • Check call metrics by hour to see when more people should be available.

Missed calls in phone.systems™

In phone.systems™ every call in call history has a status: Answered, Lost or Resolved. A lost call stays Lost until someone handles it — for example by calling back — and marks it Resolved; the resolved by field shows who did. You can filter call history for Lost calls, add tags and notes, and export the list to CSV. See tracking missed calls.
